Was this actually Directed by WKW ?

Wong Kar-Wai, probably the greatest active Director in the World, delivers a dead piece of film ?

You heard me right.

Ok, so I know that maybe an 8-minute advertisement isn't the best way to say something, but take a look at David Lynch's Playstation 2 Ads.

At least he didn't "sign" his name on the picture, leaving only his initials.

Because quite obviously, he was in it for the money. Wait, wait, I don't blame him, that's nothing wrong with getting a couple of million dollars for a 3-day-shoot. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if we got paid more for this than for any other feature film he has done.

What truly surprised me, was how "lazy" the whole film is. It seems like he didn't even put some thought into it, the whole thing is just dead, without sense or meaning. Any third-grade Film Student in his early 20's would've done the same thing with the proper equipment and crew.

Ultimately, I don't blame him - he got his money -, but he could've put some effort into it.

Perhaps Advertisements/Short-Films/Detective Stories aren't his forte.

It's a freaking commercial. These things have tight turn around times. It's not a movie where you spend months on preproduction and where the director has lots of time to pore over every little detail. Plus, someone else wrote the script. Wong Kar Wai did everything he could to make a polished commercial with some meaning and substance with the time and concept he was given.

I didn't expect it to be a masterpiece of cinema. It was, though, a very beautiful commercial...if you can call it commercial. And I liked it very much.

Jeeze this is the best of the entire series and easily one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in film. Take another look.

I have to agree with KipWellsFan. What exactly is so dead about this film again? I thought it was beautiful...mind, body, and soul was there. Are you sure you looked closely enough? I also don't think 'commercial' is really the best term for it...I mean, it was created by BMW, but it didn't exactly have some gruff voiced man talking about financing.
