Comedy Tragedy

This special was something special. I remember driving 500 miles home from college to watch it with my Mom and Dad. Like all of the Eunice sketches, it bordered on being tragedy as opposed to comedy. The laughs were not from jokes to be sure.

At the time Eunice was on TV, my mom and I often commented that we were more moved to tears than laughter. I am heartened to see we were not the only ones. There was a genius to the family sketches. So very human.

Anyone recall the Gong Show sketch where Eunice gets gonged and it isn't funny? Yet it is amazingly effective.

Loved it loved it loved it.
