Michaela was supposed to be one of 5 daughters but at the end of this movie she is talking to Rebecca, saying "it's just you and me now". While I know Marjorie died during the diptheria epidemic in Colorado Springs, what happened to the other two sisters? They never came to visit and they seemed to have just disappeared.

You are correct. Michaela was one of 5 sisters in the series. This was ignored in this movie. Sloppy writing.
shareThey made other goofs too. In the series, not only had Andrew referred to his "uncle's" practice in Boston, he stated that he only wished his parents were alive to see him marry Colleen. In The Heart Within, it's his father's practice, not his uncle's, that he has joined, and his parents (I'm sure we saw his mother as well though I could be mistaken on her) were most assuredly still alive.
It definitely would have been nice if the writers had made a bit more effort to be consistent and remain truer to character histories that had been established in the series. These aren't mistakes that a dedicated fan is going to just not notice.
I agree. There should be a fact checker working on series and movies extending series to keep things consistent.
Did they ever explain, either, why Colleen was accepted to the women's medical college in Philadelphia yet there she is in Boston, graduating from Harvard medical school? I suppose given that they spoke of the older Dr. Cook's influence to get her into Harvard she could have transferred but none of that was ever explained either.
