Hello im doing an essay on Australian rules.


The topic is: Explain the significance of the title "Australian rules"

You must not be Australian, otherwise I can't believe you wouldn't know this - and I haven't even seen the movie or read the book.
As far as I can understand, it's a play on words. The proper formal name of Australian football is Australian Rules. But the Australian Rules in the title refers to the "rules" of race and class distinction in Australian society.

Australian Rules is a great game and was designed to keep our cricketers fit and healthy during the off season. Before that they used to play rugby leabue or union, however, the players often broke down with injuries which hindered their cricket.
For those who haven't seen a game do so you won't be let down. We dont wear any padding and its as rough as American football.

Although these days i would argue it's bettwer to watch at state or even junior level, with the AFL trying to make it a more family friendly game, im not saying thats neccessarily a bad thing, they just need to be careful about alienating the original fans.
