What's up with that book?

Can somebody please tell me what the picture in the book was that Aikawa Sho shows to his friends when everyone shocks just before they put on that show for the kids.
Because the version I watched the picture in the book or whatever it was it was censored so i was wondering if that's part of the movie or do I got a censored version of the movie and i got the Dutch dvd.
So if somebody knows can you please tell me?!
Thanks!!

I think that's just a joke. It's censored for effect.

Yeah, Miike likes playing with that. See also Visitor Q.

The dutch DVD is quite annoying indeed. Damn that censoring!

reply

How dare you insult dutch dvds. We are the ones who REFUSE to censor it !

If you recall later when he lifted his skirt during the play, he had a fake phallus. I think the drawing was a more explicit illustration of what that was supposed to be. In Japan any representation of genitalia is censored, uncut version or not, at least from what I've noticed.

Japanese media is highly censored for sexual content. I'm something of an aficianado of Japanese porn and was, at first, really shocked to learn to what extent sex is censored there. It is quite permissible, for instance, to show a cock shaped dildo up a but in all its glory. While at the same time the real thing has to be pixilated out. It is one of the many peculiarities of Japanese culture.

I'm pretty sure there's something "Sacred" about pubic hair that you can't show too, but I'm not sure. I just heard somewhere on IMDb. Is it correct?

Japanese society is filled with hold-overs from past tradition, and laws that are enacted take ages, if ever, to be changed. While porn is considered no more shameful than it is in western culture (in fact, likely less-so as there aren't quite as many 'moral' issues with sexuality), changing tradition is something the Japanese are culturally resistant towards. Thus, while porn producers are able to thin their censor-blocks to the point of almost being non-existant, without anyone caring, obliteration of genital censorship might take quite some time to come about.

I loved it when Sho (Mizuki) opens the art and says "Boo-o-o-in!"

"Ah storwee wike mine ha ne'er bean towld." - Chiyo.
