Region 1 Release Date!!! Finally

Mark your calender folks cause Dimension is finally releasing Cypher on DVD on August 2/2005. Of course being Dimension that could change in an instant. Not to mention it will probaley be a pretty big let down in terms of extras and quality of the release. There is a region 2 release that is supposed to be quite good from cdjapan. It might be worth picking up over the Dimension release, I guess it depends on the needs of the DVD fanatic

It's not going to theaters?
That's disappointing...

It's amazing it has taken so long for Cypher to come out in the US and Canada. Cypher was released in Australia about two years ago, at the cinema, then to dvd. It was quite well reviewed. At the moment, I'm in Toronto on a holiday and I've been looking at dvd stores and was surprised to see it wasn't available. Hopefully the disc will have some decent extras to make up for the long wait.

I doubt it...since it was never widely released in North America, and there was no advertisement about it...I doubt that the distributors will hassle themselves by putting extras on the dvd's...

hope they do...but I doubt it

There are absolutely no extras on the American DVD. What's on the R2 version that didn't get ported over?

From memory, the extras on the region 4 (Australia) dvd are directors commentary, standard 'making of' doco and quite a lengthy segment (30 mins or so) where the director, writer, production designer and one of the actors (sorry, can't remember which one) are all seated in an edit suite being interviewed together on camera, discussing the project.

Is it not incredible that region in which Cypher is made gets the lamest edition of it on DVD? I was extremely pleased to finally see this film (thanks to my blind purchase of the long awaited Region 1 release) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. For that matter, I've enjoyed all three Vincenzo Natali films that I've had the pleasure of seeing and now owning on DVD(Cube, Cypher and Nothing). But come on, not one single relevant feature on the Region 1 edition? This film screams to be further examined through the inclusion of special features in my opinion. It certainly has been given this treatment on all other editions released elsewhere. I kind of thought this was the purpose of DVD. So why not here? I guess it just gives the distributor a reason to double-dip later on like they usually do. At any rate, I really liked Cypher just had to blow off a little steam about this nonsense.

agreed. I was super happy when I happened to go to the video store with my dad (expecting nothing i wanted to see) and there was cypher, finally! But there wasn't even a trailer for itself! It would've been a good movie for some special features for sure, i liked the movie a lot. Regardless it was a good movie, and it's really just a shame there was nothing else on the disc. ...It's also a shame it's so expensive since it's not distributed in bulk, but i still bought it cause i loved the ending.
