The film reminds me of the series Nowhere Man, especially the ending, which I won't here spoil. Also, one of the characters in Cypher is named Callaway, which is the name of a mental institution in Nowhere Man where people are subjected to mind control experiments.

Of course Nowhere Man was basically an unauthorized remake of "The Prisoner," which featured a similar revelation at the end. The late Larry Hertzog was asked by a UPN executive what kind of show he would like to do for the new network that was about to be launched and off the top of his head he said he'd like to do a show like "The Prisoner."
