Anyone notice the spelling mistake?

On the bottle of Scotch Whisky just after he shoots Rita. They mistakenly use the Irish spelling (whiskey). Just a minor complaint but the different spellings are so well known throughout the world it should have been picked up on!

reply

What makes you think that was a mistake? Why do you think they only spell it that way in Ireland?

reply

Because scotch comes from Scotland, and it is spelled Whisky. I was unaware that the Irish spelled it differently but can confirm from my bottle of Dewar's that the Scottish spell it "whisky."

I just thought "whisky" was a US spelling...
Does it help that this was filmed in Canada?

Ireland is a seperate country, only half in the UK. Ireland is its own country, seperated by indifference (Republic of Ireland and Southern Ireland). Their seperate countries, as is England, Wales and Scotland. The UK is just the collection of these countries.

In Ireland, its spelt whiskey. In Scotland, its spelt Whisky. In America, Its spelt bourbon, 'cos the way that its made over there isnt how its done over here.

Scottish = Scotch whisky
Irish = Irish Whiskey

I thought all Mexicans were from Japan; no?

To put it another way:

Great Britain is made up of England, Scotland and Wales.
Northern Ireland is the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland.
The country of The United Kingdom is made up of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The country of The Republic of Ireland is the southern part of the island of Ireland.

reply

That made me laugh. Indeed, all bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon. :::sips my bourbon::

So true!

"Whisky" is the Scottish spelling of the name, and is traditionally only used for whisky produced in Scotland
"WhiskEy" is traditionally used for the drink produced in other areas of the world.

reply

Whisky comes from Japan from the mexicans right?

reply

WhiskEY is used by the Irish and the US.
WhiskY is used by the Scots and the Canadians.
If you want a geography lesson, go elsewhere...

Thanks!

And in Barbieland it's spelled Whiski.

Which spelling is correct, Whisky or Whiskey?
Most well-known dictionaries give both spellings. The Oxford English Dictionary points out that 'in modern trade usage, Scotch Whisky and Irish Whiskey are thus distinguished in spelling'. American-made whiskey is usually spelt with an 'e'.

Now, if you would, make it a Scotch. Single malt. On the rocks.

"Now, if you would, make it a Scotch. Single malt. On the rocks. "

Hah! That made me cringe too. No one in the real world would place such an order, ever.

If you want a single malt, you'll order a specific single malt like "Highland Park, 12 year old" so specifying "Scotch" is pretty redundant to begin with (if the single malt you want isn't scottish at all, there are alterativfes, you're even dumber if you say "scotch").
No one ever ever would order a single malt "on the rocks" no matter what the origin or destillery. If you want it dilluted with water you'll add a few drops from the glass of water you the side.

reply

You know your Scotch. I doubt many viewers of this particular flick would have caught that though.

Knowledge isn't power. Access to it is...

reply

Its just generic movie speak. why? because to use a specific brand would be advertising, its why in movies people only ever order a 'beer' or in this case a 'scotch, single malt'. do you even watch movies, it happens all the time.

reply

And it's not as if no American has ever ordered a single malt on the rocks, even if it should be considered a cardinal sin.

While I will admit to tossing some coke in it (and even ice once in awhile.) I prefer to just keep the bottle in the freezer. Although... with the nasty stuff I can actually afford to drink, it probably would not matter even if I diluted it with toilet water.
