What year?

What year is Anzapta set in?

IMDB's plot summary says it's set in 1384.

Play.com's review says it's set in 1348

And as long as I'm asking questions, Why in the name of God hasn't this come out in a Region 1 format?

reply

The movie is set in 1384. "England, 1384" is shown on screen about 2 minutes into the movie when Lena Headey's character, Matilda, first appears.

Also, at the end of the movie, the following text is shown:
"FOR A WHOLE YEAR AN ALL-DESTROYING PESTILENCE SPREAD ACROSS ENGLAND.
BY THE END OF 1349 THE LIVING WERE HARDLY ABLE TO BURY THE DEAD.
ALMOST HALF THE POPULATION DIED."

Actually, I just bought my copy from Amazon.co.uk, it's a Region 0 DVD, meaning there is no region restriction. However, it is PAL format, which means if your US-bought player & TV only supports NTSC (not multi-system), then it cannot be played properly. Though you should be able to play it on your PC DVD-drive with no problem.

Details of the DVD on Amazon.co.uk:

ASIN: B0002XOYXO
DVD Release Date: 4 Oct 2004

That's interesting...

You say:

Seems to me that if the year is 1349 after a whole year of death, the beginning year should be 1348, which is what I saw when I looked at the screen about two minutes into the movie. It's also what I see in the plot synopsis on Amazon.com, but here on IMDB, it says 1384.

So are you sure it's 1384, and not 1348? I think IMDB ought to make a slight edit to some of their info here.

reply

Actually it says 1348 in the beginning.
