You and your friends probably don't like Ali G because the humour is different to what you are used to watching, i.e. inane US sitcoms like "Everybody Loves Raymond". Sacha Baron Cohen is one funny jew. He's got balls, pulling off some of the Borat/Bruno stuff that he does...just stick to Seinfeld huh?

Ali G isnt about british humor he just happens to be from over there and speaks with the accent and uses alot of slang his humour is funny whether your a american or british or any other nationality the only people i know that have watched him and dont like him are normally very religous or just very easily offended, anyway i wish that HBO would start making more over here in the US

the whole point of "ali g's" humor is tricking famous people and annoying them with stupid questions, in turn making them say ridiculous things. the humor comes from the people he interviews actually believing he's the character hes playing (whether its ali g, borat, or bruno). borat is the most controversial, because he has gotten people to say and do pretty offensive things, like that one bit in the show where borat sings "throw the jew down the well, so my country can be free" and the audience sings along enthusiastically. (ironically, sacha baren cohen is devoutly jewish, and he was doing this as a joke, but the audience thought he was serious). there have been several lawsuits for this kinda *beep* even the leaders of kazakhstan were about to take legal action for portraying their people in a very negative (and inaccurate) way. anyway, the show and movie will appeal to some people, and seem stupid to others.

I think CONFIQ is actually Borat!

no, I'm sure *he* could spell better than the OP...

Hopefully you do not mean that Ali G is an actual person.
Ali G is a role character created by Cohen.
And thus Cohen is hilarious.

If you have the balls to start talking about aliens with the co-director of FBI, tell me. Because Cohen has.

The amazing thing about Ali G is that he gets some of the most intelligent people to say the most ridiculous things without even knowing it. Like getting Buzz Aldrin to plea 'the moon DOES exist' into the camera, or getting a feminist who spends her life writing about equality to say 'all of the great chefs HAVE been men'.

What you need to remember about Sahca Bohen Carter who plays Ali G is that he is actually incredibly intelligent... He graduated from Cambridge University in the UK (which is probably the equivalant of Harvard in USA). You've got to be pretty smart to act soooo dumb and come up with things to say as stupid as he does and keep a straight face!

And remeber when he is interviewing he doesn't have a clue what the other person is about to say so he doesn't have a script like comedians in sitcoms or stand up... He has to come up with it off the top of his head!

I agree with haley that Sacha Cohen is undoubtetly a very intelligent person. But you all seem to forget that every conversation that he does is somewhat prearranged with his 'guests' and not an absolute improvisation. I mean, that FBI diector is surely aware that there is a camera 6 or 10 feet away from him in order to film some hillarious gag, and that a person in front of him is not a real character but an actor in costume trying to make a comedy film. So the man cooperates and follows Ali G's direction in the sketch. I would say that this gags works mainly because of the involved person's good will (or perhaps even some financial encouragement) to make themselves look silly and to help Cohen do his thing. Imagine Ali do the same thing on candid camera - he would be kicked out of the FBI (or NASA) in a matter of seconds, wouldn't he? Hell, they wouldn't even let him speak to this director of the FBI.

When people used to be approached to be interviewed by Ali G before he came so famous they had no idea he was a piss take, it was set up as these people thinking they were being interviewed by somebody who will appeal to a younger audience.... which is what a lot of these people i.e politicians are trying to do. Since he came so popular (especially after the Madonna film) you never see Ali G any more as people know what he is all about now so it wouldn't work as people are prepared for him.... Thats why he has done Borat, most people in America won't have heard of him before the film came out so people think he is this total idiot and you get a genuine reaction from the people he interviews... That what makes his show so funny, not necessarily him, but the unscripted reactions from his guests. I bet now that Borat has been such a big success you will never see him again... It will be Bruno next!
