How did she end up in Nova Scotia?

She was out of work and looking for another job, after she'd gotten her degree. If I have it correct, I believe a firm in Nova Scotia had offered her a new job.

From what I remember she had her Ph.D. for several years and she had applied for grant money to study the whales in Nova Scotia, and when the grant money came through she had to go.
