WOWWW THIS MOVIE SUCKED

OK i never write on these boards and never planned to ever write anything. This movie was soooo horrible I had to, it was either this or go way out of my way to punch that a$$hole in the face. I felt dumber almost braindead after watching this movie. What a waste of life. It has not one funny part, I cant believe he actually got all those cameos. This movie sucked more than anything.

i agree

wow you guys are so wrong this moive is great pauly shore is makeing a comeback WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

I think Pauly Shore actually does need to stage his own death because this movie completely ruined him in my mind. I wish he hadn't made it because I used to think he was HILARIOUS! Now he just sickens me.

reply

geez.. what the hell have you people to make such personal attacks like that? He's actually doing something with himself. A lot of people like this movie actually. On top of that a friend of mine was in this movie who's an outstanding comedian, and was Sam Kineson's right hand man. He probably got those cameos because he knew some of them personally. I mean who are imdb message board geeks to deal out death and judgement?

reply

reply

IMDB message board geeks? you're the one DEFENDING pauly shore on an IMDB message board!

reply

I think Pauly Shore is great, i didn't like him when he was the weasel. Between Pauly Shore Is Dead, and Minding The Store, I have earned a great deal of respect for him, I think he's great.

reply

I don't think anyone is attacking Pauly Shore as a human being, it's just that this movie is abysmally bad. Pauly Shore has created some horrible movies, but this is his pessimum opus. I would place this movie in the same circle of comedic hell as Club Dredd and Adam Sandler's Overboard. In the special features Shore mentions that he's been working on this movie for five years. That's right, five years. Wow. Basically, Pauly Shore sits down to write a movie about how bad he sucks, works on it for five years, and then creates the worst movie he's ever been involved in. Cinematic irony at its finest.

honestly, i grew up watching paulies movies and i still think some are hillarius(encino man and son in law), what really bothers me most about this thread is that the orriginal poster said he wanted to punch him in the face. what the hell. what has he done or said that warrents that? i mean sure bio dome and jury duty were bad but come on, violence? the only celebritys i could see hiting are bono and micheal moore, they are self righous dicks that tell people how to live. paulie shore just wants to be in the lime light again, whats wrong with that?

I liked this movie. Its Paulys first movie in a while you gotta give him a break. I think it was pretty funny. I don't really know about the rest of u. If u don't like Pauly Shore movies u shouldn't watch em. Well, cya'll

AH! CRAMP!

reply

It's popular to hate Pauly Shore and people are lame and boring and predictable so they say horrible things about him. I agree that Bono is way more deserving of a thrashing.

I also like those two movies you mentioned, Encino Man and Son in Law. They've aged horribly but that's why I like them. They make me laugh.

"who are imdb message board geeks to deal out death and judgement"

who are YOU to do the same? clearly, the only defense of the film you have is "what do you know, you're on a message board". yes we are, and SO ARE YOU my hypocritical friend. so why should we take YOUR word over anyone else's? because your 'friend' was in the movie? HAHA! what a joke. my friend's cat was in the movie Passionada, but that doesn't make THAT film any better.

bottom line, if you can't deal with people giving opinions on a message board, you don't belong here. also, for someone who isn't a "geek," you sure did a good job of stealing that "death and judgement" line from The Lord of the Rings, one of the "geekiest" films/books ever!! Since I can't call you a geek, you must be a nerd, right?

this movie was terrible, and your post has done nothing but prove that it appeals to noone but friends of the peope in it. so there ya go.

Hey, you're either a Pauly Shore fan or you're not. If you're not then what the hell are you even doing on this page. Go find a nice Woody Allen middle aged yuppy movie. Losers.

Know what a busload of critics going over a cliff is? A good start.

reply

I thought it was hilarious. I loved seeing that side of Pauly. But to each their own. Not everyone's gonna like it.

reply

Ok, maybe some of us would like to punch Pauly Shore in the face, but it's not just because of his movies. It's because we've had to deal with this douche for a couple of decades, and all because his mom owned a comedy club that EVERYONE in the comedy scene has been through, giving sonny boy lots of contacts in the industry, allowing him to become a second rate franchise. And now he's using the comedy club itself to make his reality show.
And he's had sex with more pornstars and playboy models than most NBA champions. So yeah, I'd like to punch him in the face.

We rented this movie because we thought it was going to be like Best In Show, which was a hilarious mockumentry. The cover looked like a documentry would, which is funny because we actually thought he was dead, that is how small he is. The jokes are badly timed (just showing what an awful comic he was), he shot the entire thing with a camcorder and tried to pass it off as if a professional shot it, and he narrated the freakin' thing! I never noticed how annoyning his voice is untill that day! Another note- Shore also does the commentary- a bit odd for someone who narrated it, huh? And at the end, when the credits/bloopers are rolling, you can see he is the only one laughing at these jokes, while the other actors are looking pained. But the crowning turd of the water pipe was when he was ripping off Animal House, and had what happened to the characters in the story- Pauly made himself look as if he won, or something; every other character had something terrible happen to themselves. Why? For bettering themselves by leaving Shore? If your trying to better yourself, terminating a friendship with Pauly Shore is a great start. This ending effectively summed up what Shore has become- small, bitter, angry and stuck in a place he cannot get out of. There should be no child actors, look at that kid from Home Alone and Pauly Shore.

reply

Wow,

If you dont like Pauly Shore, then why are you looking him up on the internet.

The people who think this movie was bad, don't understand the word Satire. Pauly Shore Satirizes himself in a very funny way. He makes a joke of his failures. That is funny and you have to give him credit for that. It is also a great stab at Hollywood and how phony people can be. I really thought the Michael Madsen, Tom Sizemore bit was really funny. The self-deprecating humor used through out the movie is awesome. People who think this movie is stupid shuld just go back to watching your Jack-Ass and Jerry Springer because that would be more on your mental level.

reply

Now we have this cat saying you need a higher mental level to enjoy this movie? lol. It's a matter of opinion with everyone having their own, until you acted like we're not intelligent enough to love this movie. The concept was good...Pauly admitting he's a douche and making fun of himself....but the whole movie consisted of cameos mentioning a Pauly Shore movie, then swearing a lot. It was kind of the same joke over and over again. The parts I found funny were the clips of his sitcom, and how he faked his death. Those were the two routes I felt this movie could have taken: real clips, real interviews, etc....or dark comedy. But what do I know? I don't appreciate Pauly Shore's genius comedic timing. Nor his delightful passion for the soliloqy. His somehow attained...sixth sense, if you will...which gave him the ability to make only the most intelligent laugh.

Agreed.

"The concept was good...Pauly admitting he's a douche and making fun of himself....but the whole movie consisted of cameos mentioning a Pauly Shore movie, then swearing a lot."

Yeah, the movie wasn't really comedic genius... but it also has some depth. I don't know how intentional it was in what I saw, but it seemed to me like a bad Paulie Shore 90s movie satire.

"It was kind of the same joke over and over again. The parts I found funny were the clips of his sitcom, and how he faked his death."

Yeah, unfortunately, I was pretty much looking at my watch in the end 20 or so minutes of this movie.

"Those were the two routes I felt this movie could have taken: real clips, real interviews, etc..."

That would work well... if he really faked his own death. Without doing that, though, there aren't many sources to draw from.

"or dark comedy."
That's how I mainly saw it. I saw this at the DVD discount bin for 5 bucks, and I said, "Paulie Shore? That guy f_cking sucks! I need to see this!" IMO, most of the movie's substance comes from how hypocritical/artificial people are. I love the shots it takes at Fox and MTV.

Could the movie have taken itself more seriously? Of course it could have... but I would probably hate Paulie Shore if it did. He'd seem like too much of an attention whore / drama queen. This movie isn't perfect, but the fact alone that he can make a dark comedy like this gives me a more respect for the man. He's at least showing people that he knows what happened and wants to shake off that f_cking typecast image of his as the dumb but loveable young hippy / stoner.

i love how if you don't like this movie its because you're not a pauly shore fan. This movie flat out sucked, and the only reason i saw it was because i've seen all his movies and most of them were at least decent. This movie did have potential but its completely ruined by too many cameos, poor directing(amongst other cinematography faults), being lame and not funny, and never having a point or at least some kind of satisfying conclusion.

i'm amazed there are people who enjoyed this, let alone are defending it and completely astonished that others might think this sucked.

But i guess thats why most of the people defending the film aren't pointing out examples of why the film is good, they're just calling everyone else yuppies and non-pauly shore fans.

I'd even consider this film to be in a top ten of the worst films this millenium.

when i the case for it i thought it was a documentry type thing where i thought they told all of these big stars that he was dead and got their reaction...im glad i held off on renting it because now im not interested in it at all

"I am Jack's smirking revenge."

reply

Wow dude I thought the same exact thing. I wonder where that rumor originated from.

reply

i would of def. rented it if it was the reactions but now that i know its scripted not a chance

"I am Jack's smirking revenge."

reply

Everything everybody has said about this movie, ESPECIALLY the faults and flaws and everything "wrong", in this thread is exactly the point...

It was supposed to suck.

reply

Mission accomplished then. I assume this went straight to video?

Shame on me for renting it, I guess, but I actually thought he was faking his death and then getting real reaction from celebs. What a disappointment. Andy Dick wasn't even funny in this one.

If there is one good thing to say about this movie, it's that Pauly Shore actually executed an original idea (whether it was his or not).

reply

I agree.

I was never turned on by any of Shore's movies but looking back, I don't think they're anywhere as bad as some of what people say.

In fact, I'm watching one now.

I was really looking forward to seeing "...Is Dead," because I thought it really was going out and telling random stars and people he was dead and getting their reactions positive or negative.

I read a review on another sitethat said it was scripted. The descriptions in video stores insinuated anything but scripted, so I came imdb to read if which was true.

It really is a let down. I thought for a moment he might not have done it that way because he actually didn't want to hear what people thought, but if he made a movie showing he sux, then he's also saying he doesn't care what people think.

With this in mind, it was his project, and his money, so if he liked the end result, that's what matters. It's refreshing when a star or lack thereof can have a sense of humor of him/herself.

However, I don't know if I could sit through the movie knowing it was all staged, but then maybe I will. I'm glad there were these message boards, so in the end I can have a better ability to decide myself.

Really? Not liking this movie means I don't like satire, huh? Excuse me, I beg to differ. If you want REAL satire (you know, the kind that REALLY satirizes something rather than PRETENDING to satirize yourself when you are REALLY trying to revive your failed career) watch a Cristopher Guest film like This is Spinal Tap, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman or A Mighty Wind. You could also try watching The Daily Show or The Colbert Report, both examples of GOOD satire. Or watch Dr. Strangelove. Next, read Gulliver's Travels or A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift. Are you getting me? You have a LONG way to go before you understand what quality satire entails. It requires actual WIT and brilliance, not "good intentions".

Paint-by-numbers satire (and yes, I am agreeing with you that this film IS satire, so I clearly DO know what "satire" is) does not make a good film.

There was about 4 or 5 genuine "laughs" in this film. This film is FAILED satire. Frankly, SNL provides more biting satire than this thing.

I love how people generalize and if you like any Pauly Shore movies then you're an idiot and have no sense of humor. Guess what, people have wide and varied tastes and there isn't a black and white distinction between what is funny and what isn't that everyone should agree on. Calm down and realize that other people may like things that you think suck. That's no reason to start in with personal attacks.

Rant over.. I'm watching this movie right now and there have been several parts where I have laughed out loud. I love all the cameos, Vince Vaughn, Fred Durst, Vern Troyer, Jay Mewes, Carrot Top, the Jerry Springer bit, great stuff (and no I don't like Jerry Springer).

You all may now begin calling me a moron that has no taste in movies because I thought parts of this movie were funny.

I agree. you people are over reacting, alot!

Hi there.

Doing well ?

I absolutely agree with the fact that the movie is really bad.

I used to watch Pauly Shore's movies when I was younger in the early 90's, and some were cool, such as "Encino man" "Son in law" (this is the best for me), but his character (The weasel), was so heavy that it could not work for too long.

For years now, Shore does not interest anymore (or maybe only his die hard fans), his characters being always the same and really silly, it was funny once, twice, three times, but that was enough..

I watched "Pauly Shore is dead" because I knew Pauly had no success anymore and just wanted to see how he could strike back. My gosh it is a shame..

It could have been a funny satire of what happened to him but why that vulgar ? Come on, is it that the way you live and talk, your view of the women or how you treat them or other people ? What a shame.. No wonder why relationships between people are more and more superficials, no wonder why the US are that violent.. What a pitty..

This movie is a compilation of his previous jokes added with his present situation. All you're going to see and hear is a bunch of very vulgar jokes, stupid heavy stereotypes. The movie is so vulgar that I was ashame to watch it with my gal.. How can movies for teens and young people be that vulgar ? No wonder why so many young people are that immoral with that kind of productions.

Pauly had his time, it was funny but too much was just too much. Do you imagine Jim Carrey only doing movies like "Ace Ventura" ? Fortunately he did not, Pauly did not really get mature. "Jury duty" was a little bit different and less silly but it was not funny at all and welcome the the heavy moral, sick..

"Pauly Shore is dead" could have been a movie reminding us who he was and what he did but would have been funnier without all that vulgar stuff. Some parts are funny. I liked the part when he is in prison with the black folks, he sounded like the cool old Pauly but all the other stuff around was so heavy.

Go ahead Pauly, try something else!

Have a nice day.

Ok, personally, I didn't get a "I'm trying to make a comeback" feel from this movie. I got a more of, "I'm going to expose hollywood for the superficial hypocrites they are" feel.

This movied could have been about anyone, Carrot Top, Screech, anyone. The point I feel that is coming across is that, hollywood and the world look down on a hasbeen, and make fun of their past flaws and act like they are a piece of garbage to the entertainment society, a living idiot.

But, the minute they die, oh, suddnenly, they go from idiot to genious. Just like Kennison, Boluschi, Kaufman, any of them. Look at Andy Kaufman, noone liked him for his antics, everyone in hollywood looked at him like an idiot for the stunts he pulled. Even after his show a carnegy hall, they still acted like it was a ploy to win back fans, and maybe it was, but that is a kinda "douche bag" thing in itself isn't it? However, it wasn't until after he died and after man on the moon, that people relized what a "genious" he was, and I am in no way comparing pauly to andy, in comedic sense, just an example.

This movie tells me that, that is it better to be a living idiot, or a dead genious. Just my opinion, I think the movie has been completely misinterpretted by a lot of people on this board.
