I don't get the twist at the end (spoiler)

How is it that Meg lived?? They didn't explain that whatsoever - she was clearly shot. Was it a fake shooting? Did she get treated and happened to live? I don't like this sort of important yet missing info - irritating to the point of almost ruining the movie for me. In fact I dropped a point from my rating just for that.

Yes - she pulled through and the police made it look like she's dead and put her into witness protection. That's why Kate at the end says that for the three of them to meet again is against all the rules.
