How, exactly, did she think she was going to solve the situation by making excuse after excuse after excuse for her daughter and allowing her to just do and act however she wanted? The punk even told her mother jail was better than being with her, so why not let her stay there?

the girl was hateful and the mother goes and GROVELS as if she was the one that was causing all the trouble!

I found it absorbing how my thoughts about the mother and daughter kept changing during the course of the movie. The mother was a weak insipid person who wanted everything to be nice. But it was good how she was slowly shown to be a bit of fighter as the time of her daughter's detention increased.
