What do you think of the new version of the Bunny Song?

In the original release of this video, there is a line in the Bunny Song where Nezzer says, "I don't love my mom or my dad, just the bunny." But now in the VeggieTales Classics release, the lyrics have been changed to "I don't love my soup or my bread, just the bunny."

Another line was changed. The original said, "I won't go to church, I won't go to school; that stuff is for sissies, but bunnies are cool!" The new version says, "I won't eat no beans, and I won't eat tofu; that stuff is for sissies, but bunnies are cool!"

I would imagine the reason for this change is that parents didn't like their kids going around singing about not loving their parents and not going to church and school, so in a sense this is a good change (at least for the purposes of maintaining a peaceful home life!). But it really hurts the story. Rack, Shack, and Benny are supposed to be dismayed about singing this song, and it really bothers their consciences. But this new version is far less startling. It's hard to imagine that their consciences are bothered that much by saying they don't love bread and soup or that they won't eat beans and tofu.

Even with the changes, this is still one of my favorite VeggieTales stories.

Odd that they changed it - perhaps they did it for the TV syndication?

I didn't know about the censoring of the song until I watched the episode on Netflix just now. And I got angry. I watched this video (and many other VeggieTales videos) millions of times as a child and I turned out just fine. And in truth The Bunny Song used to scare me. My mom used to sing it to tease me because she knew I didn't like it and I'd say "No, Mommy! That's a bad song!"

Yeah, the revisions definitely undermine the message of the whole episode.
