At the end of the movie we realize that Cruz's character was actually Javier Bardem, a rugged looking man and that his punishment in Hell was to be a slender softer looking woman.

I think I got the joke but sometimes I feel that I didn't get the entire joke. Was there more to this than meets the eye? I think I know what it is but I want to see what you all think!

huh yeah I was thinking what a coincidence.

I think the joke was Hell was punishing Cruz character (who used to be a male 'gangster') by making him a woman (perhaps he despised them or thought females inferior)

is that what you meant?
