why is it in japanese if they are in china?

i just started playing the PAL version of the game in my dreamcast, and i can't understand how Ryo can speak to everyone there.
is he in some place of china where everyone is japanese or what?

Heh i thought that too, but it never really bothered me really.
I'm sure there would be quite a few Japanese people in Hong Kong.
Guess the only way we'll know is if a Chinese or Japanese person tells us the deal.

Suspension of disbelief. It's just one of those things that are altered to make games and movies work.
Think about it, how irritating would it be if no one understood Ryo and vice versa?

Citizen: "Hi welcome to Hong Kong!"

Ryo: "Huh? What?"

Citizen: "Huh?"

Ryo: "I'm looking for Lishao Tao...LIIIISHAOOOO TAOOO"

Actually that would be ammusing for a short while lol
