Well-acted, well-presented

And in my opinion powerful.
I was totally absorbed and moved.
It's a piece of history that deserves re-telling.
We can never learn too much.
It is a sobering thought to see what gross ignorance can foster.

I just watched it off Netflix for the first time and thought it was really well done. My expectations were very low but it really made an impression on me. I thought the acting and the musical score and direction were great.

*Spoilers*

The scene when the first woman is hanged gave me the chills. As she looks at Ann Putnam they both look at eachother utterly helpless. All the while the girls are carrying on making a scene. Finally as she is hanged one of the girls gasps out loud at the reality of it all. the scene was done in slow motion without sound sans the haunting musical score. really just breathtaking.

Very good points and I agree.
I'll tell you something, I recently read The Devils of Loudon by Aldous Huxley. Now, there was a film in the 1970's which i have yet to see. I can tell you that the book is excellent.
I mention this because until I read that book, I was mystified (to a great extent) about the Salem witches as I was about the witch hysteria in general.

If you do read the book, you find it solves a lot of these questions.

People sadly, as they were in Salem, are prone to such hysteria.
I don't want to go into a rant! I write and am too wordy sometimes!
But I very much agree with what you said. One further point, if i'm not mistaken, i think one of the Salem judges did actually apologise some years after the trial to say he was wrong!
Now, that's really amazing.

Thanks for the reply. :-) Yeah I never really knew all that much about the Trials aside from watching "The Cruciable". (but that was back when I was in high school 10 years ago) I liked that the trials really introduced you to other characters aside from just the hysterical girls and Ann. I'll have to see if I can find that book you mentioned.

that's great! and you're welcome!
The Salem thing is fascinating, there are books in the library i'm sure you would love.
I recall reading one that showed an accusor or two wound up with the accused's property or part of it!
Motive, eh? Hmm then it's more than mass hysteria.

the more interested you are, the more you will be!

see if you can get it from the library, but i always go to Amazon, too.

It's interesting, and remember there were, what is now called, The Burning Times. the witch hysteria that lasted for centuries.
it's incredible, really.
