In this subtitles, what does the word 'pinch off a bite' mean?


What does the word "pinch off a bite" mean, when Dite talks about another waiter in Paris Hotel. I am foreiger and not so sure about this word.

Please clarify me.

In Australia I have only used it heard as humorous slang for excreting: "I'm going to pinch one off".

I'd guess "pinch off a bite" comes from literally pinching (with your two fingers) a piece of food off. Alternatively the phrase could arise because pinch is slang for steal / theive.

He liked to pinch one off when he thought on one was looking...
Yes in the UK pinch means steal, and I thought that he was stealing bite of food from the trays. But then a scene or two later the waiter is carrying a tray, he stops and looks around, makes a face and then moves off. So I am guessing that he was farting.

It means "uzdibnout" - thats czech word for taking small amount of food by your index finger and thumb.
