American History Question

I'm not a big fan of Murder, She Wrote, but I did enjoy this. And not knowing a thing about American History in the 1860's I was wondering how close to the truth it was?

I was born and raised in the area the movie involved, the counties of Culpeper ,Fauquier and Prince William. The movie portrayed history during the War of Northern Agression fairly close to the textbooks. Keep in mind that not only do the spoils go to the victor but also the the writing of history as the victors see it. I will say it was very close to what "may" have happened. The characters were well portrayed all the way down to the present day reenactor as portrayed by Walton Coggins. Sadly racial division still exists, not just in the American South but worldwide and probably always will.

I think you are right about that, sadly. And considering race is just a genetic mutation one begins to wonder how racism started and what's the point?

reply

The point used to be justification of slave labor. Now it's just something people learned and can't seem to let go of. It seems to give them some sort of punching bag to let out frustration from the difficulties of life. My theory, anyway.
