The French version?

Was this film originally in French or English? Also was jeremy irons dubbed over by someone else?

reply

as far as i know, it was originally in both french AND english. the french scenes are subtitled here, so i do believe it was intended for distribution in the US. though, i can't say for sure. have never heard that, but i would love to know if it's true. i have found it hard to dig up anything on this film. there seems to be a lack of articles n such out there. but as i said, i would love to read more on it.

the dvd has no extras, sadly.

as to the dubbing question, in the french scenes irons spoke his own french, so i don't think he would have required dubbing. he has been in many french films anyway, so he seems capable of handling his own lines in french. if you are referring to the english scenes being dubbed into french, like i said irons wouldn't need dubbing. so logically that would mean leroach would have had to shoot those scenes twice, once in each language. i have never heard this was the case. maybe someone can offer some articles or other prod info here.

in summary, i think there was only one version, split into both languages, varying according to which scene was being shot.
