In the end we see the girl survive and alive. Okay but how did she convinced anyone she died in the flames? First, and second why the professor/psychiatrist don't tell the cops about her. Why is he letting her live her life?

When the cops momentarily lose her she jams the accelerator with the brick so the car will move, and the only thing the police found were dental records, which belonged to the real Rachel so the corpse was her double, and she was free to leave.

She really IS there daughter, actually! BUT she is not Rachel Newman. She killed Rachel to get to this collage! After she killed her: She took her place in the collage
The real Rachel didn´t had parents. Her parents died in a car accident.
The fact is: In the car, which gone of in flames: There were 2 dead people in it! The REAL Rachel and Starkman.... so the police thought, that Rachel is dead.
And even if the psychiatrist would try to tell the police, that she is alive: The wouldn´t believe him, since Rachel is dead....
At the end of the movie, she is not Rachel anymore! She took the place of Elizabeth.... (You got to believe, that she killed her, too)

shareI agree. Who is she supposed to be? After all, she's only pretending to be Rachael and then Elizabeth. Do we ever find out her real identity?

Her real identity was the daughter of the two parents who came to see her. But I'll be damned if I can remember the name they called her.
Anyway, remember when she had dinner with them at that French restaurant and Dr. Daniels came in with his mother? Dr. Daniels came over to their table and spoke briefly with them. When he walked away with Rachael, her mother said, "Did he just call her a different name?"
And when Rachael came back to the table, her mother asked her why he had called her a different name, but "Rachael" just said she didn't know.

I am in the middle of watching it and I noticed something about her name that isn't making sense to me, not sure if it's a goof or not. When her parents leaving her dorm room, I swear I heard the dad say "Bye Rach" or "Bye Rachael", which I didn't think twice about until it got to the part where she explains she isn't Racheal. Other than that, her parents never address her by name.
In the restaurant the Dr. calls her "Miss Newman"
Okay, well I guess I'll have to watch it again someday, because I really thought they called her by the name they gave her.

They never called her by any name. They'd call her honey, dear, sweetheart, etc. In the end when she shoo'd them back to the motel, the dad said, "bye precious"
