English DVD of Belle and Sebastian

Though I was a bit old watching this show when it was showing on Nickelodean in the early to mid 1980s, I liked the way it was portrayed as a continueing saga. Most cartoons then and now do not do that.
I bought the complete DVD set from the FreeWeb site and watched it from start to finish. The person at that website has done an excellent job improving the graphic quality. There are also a few deleted scences that were not in the English version. I was very pleased overall with the quality of the set. I plan to buy another set for my nephews.

Thanks for the review! I'm the creator of the set you mentioned from freewebs.com/stuffilike/belleandsebastian.htm

There is talk of Fabulous Films UK releasing the series in English, but every time I hear from them, they cannot find the English masters and apparently TOHO is also asking a ludicrous amount of money for the rights. I have a sinking feeling it's never going to be commercially available because of this. Which is why I'm offering my set at all. It's easily my favorite show of that era personally, and the fans just want to see it again.

Just found this, can't believe it took so long on my part. I watched much of this series with my girls during the early 80's. We got our first Great Pyrenees in 1990 (now on our 3rd and 4th) without realizing that we'd been led to this great gentle Pyr that was the heroine of the series. I'm going to have to scrape together the $$ to purchase it -- just to have it. Nothing ultra special in memory, but it's nice to think there was a series that showed these wonderful dogs. Thanks for your work getting this ready.

Hi. I'm an Australian who recently read in one of the major local newspapers of the French 'Belle and Sebastian' film (2013) being shown at cinemas.

After having looked online for session times, the two cinema companies here locally aren't showing the film.
Also the film is different from the Japanese cartoon version of the story, with Nazis and World War 2 featuring in the motion picture.
I've contacted Icon Film Distribution Australia on facebook, about if they plan to later release this film on DVD. I wait for a reply from them.

I came across the message you posted here from 4 years ago, after actually trying a few web searches to see whether there is a version of Cecile Aubry's book in English available to buy. To no avail.

I remember watching the Japanese cartoon version on ABC TV in the early mornings.
Most likely before school. Probably the early 1990s. From what I read online, the BBC only broadcast it several years after it was broadcast in Japan.

Your copies, even if you still had any to sell, would they be compatible to be played in other regions? (Australia is part of DVD region 4).

Andrew

I can only assume Kelly has been asked to remove the show from her list of series' to sell as the page is no longer on her site... That's fine if it means impending release but that seems unlikely. Glad I got it while I could, but a shame for others still without it.
