Now available on DVD in France

If anyone is interested, episodes 1 - 26 have been released on dvd in France (French only, no subs) from Declic Images through Manga Distribution. Quality looks a bit like VHS (both opening and closing titles are in much worse shape), but still much better than the 10th gen copies floating around.

Hopefully this will encourage another company to release them in English, but then MCoG still hasn't been released in English on DVD so.... :(

Must have (even in French) if you grew up on this series on Nickelodeon (back when that station was still watchable... ;(

Y'know, I was convinced that I was the only person in the *world* who remembered this series. I hope they do bring it out on DVD - I'd certainly buy it...

I agree. I downloaded some French episodes of Belle and Sebastian recently and watched them with my 6 year old niece. Neither of us understands French, but we both enjoyed watching.

I would LOVE to purchase all episodes that were shown on Nickelodeon. I'm having difficulty trying to find English episodes to buy (it seems impossible to even find the book that Cecile Aubrey wrote because it's out of print).

At least Mysterious Cities of Gold wasn't as difficult to get...

I've just contacted a guy who has the entire European (in English) series run of Belle and Sebastian on VHS. He's making copies for me now and I should have them in my possession sometime early next week. I'll let you guys know how it turned out (and whether/how it lives up to my childhood memories -- an impossible task, I know).. and how to contact the guy. I will say this: the price is steep. But if it is all 64 episodes and in decent enough quality I should have no problem recommending it. But again, I'll let you all know.

hey dude, any updates on Belle and Sebastian VHS, DVDs...?

I'm dying to have this series on DVD. I remember watching this show when I was 4, I even thought about it on occasion growing up. Fond memories. Who do I need to send a thousand letters to in order to get this job done?

reply

There are English DVDs at freewebs.com/stuffilike/belleandsebastian.htm if anyone is interested. Only place that has them.

Thanks for the info!

Have you purchased episodes from this place? If so, how do you like them?

reply

No problem. I'm quite happy with the set. Although the episode quality is not the same as commercial DVD quality, it is very much watchable (about 8/10 quality, a few little VHS glitches now and then), and I can't complain since it is the only place that has it (the site owner made the DVDs herself). And also, the cover art she gives is great, it blends right in with my DVD collection. I'd definitely recommend it.
