Nicolae Carpați

It's interesting, since Carpathia is Romanian, that they translated his last name into English and left his first name alone. Logically, he would be Nicolae Carpați.

I believe they translated his name due to the Titanic disaster. The Titanic represents the World that is slowly sinking. Of course the Carpathia was the ship that rescued the 700+ Titanic survivors.

The authors named him after the Carpathian Mountains. A character even states that the name reminds him of them in the original books the movies are based on.

True, but it's still unusual to translate a Romanian surname into English!

Eh, chalk it up as an error on the author's part. I've seen reviewers list lots of errors that range from political to geographic within the Left Behind book series. That's not even counting on Christian arguments over theological error claims against the pretribulation view of the Rapture and the like.

Just an aside, but I think Gordon Currie is great in the movies. His Nicolae is super suave and radiates evil.
