Worst horror film ever...

I think this movie takes the cake as the worst film I have ever seen. Manos, Hands of Fate was better than this one. I mean, exactly what were they thinking when they hired the main actress? Could anyone else tell what a terrible job she did and how painful she was to even look at? I kept thinking my TV was failing on me because some parts of the film seemed elongated, but I just realized that was the lead actress's disturbingly long neck. Hideous...
As for the film itself. What was the plot? I read the back of the movie coverbox and even then I still didn't really get what the movie was about. The writing, directing, cinematography, special effects, etc. were all terrible. This was a bigger waste of my time then when I watched Waterworld.
I don't even remember this being in theaters...was it? It coudn't have made any money if it was.
Here's a tip...save your money and go see Cabin Fever (at least it's entertaining!)

reply

Nah. Laura Regan may be unique looking, but she was attractive on some levels. The neck might even be considered sexy.

But I do agree, the movie blew. Perhaps the acting would have been better if there was something worth acting for.

I suspect that it's been a very long time since you've seen Manos.... That aside, I don't know why people here keep having such trouble with this movie. I will grant that the actors aren't FABULOUS, but they're competent enough. I will grant that the story may appeal or not as personal taste dictates, but please define what is wrong with the effects-- if your problem lies in that the critters aren't shown clearly, well, that's sort of the point. They're scary because they're poorly-seen, the same way that the unspeakable thing at the end of your bed is merely a pile of laundry once you get the lights on. Don't take any of this personally, tho', since you're just responding to the cinematic hand-holding that Hollywood is so well-known for. I've said elsewhere, and I'll repeat, this is a great movie for people who like to read Lovecraft.

As far as worst horror film ever made; man, it's hard to top Manos. How about Jason X-- not a particularly well done movie, AND an Aliens rip. Anaconda was pretty grim as horror, but fine comedy. The guy who WROTE Forever Evil is kind of embarrassed by it (google "The Bad Movie Report" for his own story). Most Italian movies with the word "Demon" in the title are pretty sucky. Again, it's a matter of taste, but I don't think you can really hang that award of They.

reply

oh come on ernst....while you are on point with your they/lovecrafy props & acknowledgement of anaconda's terrible-ness, please dont underestimate jason in space, which is campy, hilarious & much more interesting than most 'generic' monster-killer flicks...

reply

i thought they was a great comedy...especially the part when that girl was like "and that was when i stabbed him in the eye with a kitchen knife" or something. but yeah...a terrible horror movie. the only reason i watched it was for ethan embry--i have a strange obsession with that guy.

reply

True, some people just don't like other people.
I used to hate people with curly hair when I was in kindergarden... but I grew out of it, which was just as well, since I moved to Africa! hehe.

... but I have to say, I LOVED the main actress. SHe has that early Mia Farrow in "Rosemary's Baby" look about her. True she has a TERRIBLE baby face, and I absolutely did not feel she was old enough, or mature enough, to be taking the test she was taking in the movie. She looks like a young teen... and I am totally into her! ;-)

I even used to know a girl in England who looked a lot like her. Perhaps the ease with which she swallowed a hairbrush handle have something to do with it? But her long skinny legs, thin body, petite breasts and girlish attitude make her dear to those who appreciate that sort of thing. We can't all love large breasted, plump belly dancing women, can we.

Nope, I'm definately into her in a big way. Despite the irritating movie.

Darkness Falls was way worse.

This movie was the worst and stupidest movie ever made!

reply

I'd have to say this was the worst if they didn't make Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

Hi my name is Rubber Demon!

reply

WHAT!!! Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is one of the best movies ever made (not to be taken too seriusly). You got to love movies that makes so much fun of itself. Even the bad acting is so good that it looks like it's made un porpus...

reply

Damn, so your another one of those who can't handle a movie where you have to think? no offence, but I didn't like LotR much, they made a sucky script where you are given anything, not having to think at all... and the movies you said you didn't like... well thats your choice ofcause, but alot of them make it seam like you just watch movies to waste your time, not to think about it... which is fine for some people I guess... but remember folks, effects doesn't make a movie... the money spent on a movie doesn't make a great movie... some of the best movies made didn't cost a hell of a lot (besides blair Witch Project which really sucked)

I liked They, I thought it had a good plot (could be better scripted, granted) and I reall liked the way they made it look like it was filmed in the early 80's, made the CG effects look much more real, all in all an un-tradidtional horror movie, much better then the newer usual hollywood crap like Darkness Falls and the Ring

horrorjunkie> You are wrong ,soooo wrong. I disagree with all you've said.
Just sad for you that you like this movie...

"They" doesn't qualify as real horror. If you want real horror, or decent horror, pick up a few japanese horror films. Try out:

Ichi the Killer (the horrifying gore factor is incredible)
Ju-On (Okay, so I peeked out from under my boyfriend's arm for most of it...)
Ringu (Definitely scary)

and my all time favorite selection, an American classic...

Psycho

definitely the best thriller ever made and full of that "less is more" quality that you speak of.

reply

I agree. 'They' is on TV right now and just ending. Total crap. Anyone ever see the Mangler, the Mangler 2, or Motel Hell? Those have to be the worst movies ever. I listened to some of Battlefield Earth and that's a horrible. Darkness Falls, Jeepers Creepers, The Ring, American Psycho (rented it, couldn't even finish watching it), Jason X (so bad it was funny. just watched it to see Lexa Doig and Lisa Ryder), 13 Ghosts (funny when the lawyer got split in half), and Soul Survivors. All BAD MOVIES! Need more movies like The Lord of the Rings. But, if they did, we'd have nothing to complaina about... lol.

Jeepers Creepers AND The Ring were BAD? To each his own, I thought they were pretty damn good. The 13 Ghosts remake wasn't that bad either, not perfect but still entertaining at least. This film wasn't terrible but it was okay. Trolls 2, Jason X were terrible but still Jason X had some interesting things about it. Not every film can be Lord of the Rings, while they're some great films, some actually like mindless action films and some campy horror flicks. That being said, They wasn't perfect but I thought it was actually okay. Loved the twist at the end. Shame some people think this is the worst horror film ever when films like Bug & The Wicker Man remake are out there. *sigh*

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit me!"- Hudson in Aliens.

reply

I hated Lord of the Rings. That's 3 hours of my life I wasted.

reply

Wow. You put American Psycho on here when it wasn't even a horror movie? It's black comedy. And The Ring? Please don't be one of those Japanese film elitist snobs that thinks nothing a Japanese director does can ever be done again. I mean Ringu is obviously a good movie but The Grudge was pretty damned creepy and The Ring was excellent. If you'd been talking Toho Godzilla circa 1954 vs. the '98 American version you'd be right on but as it stands?

I'm sorry that you have failed. Self Pwned. Your argument is invalid. I award you no points.

reply

nah They was worse.
They actually had a ending.

They was a stupid ending that doesn't make sense and doesn't even explain anything.

At least in Darkness Falls it has a good conclusion unlike the crap in they.

reply

a pretty bad horror movie with only a few scares but its better then fear dot com

reply

o man! i saw this juz yesterday on DVD and it was SOooo crappy!!
i mean at first it was kinda cool the kid gettin drag under.. they had nice gross scene like when the guy shoots himself..and blood splaters.. but COME ON!! what's with the ending? how can anyone say it's a good show? it's CRAPPY!! no offence to the directors and stuff i mean the script could do a lil more better don't you think?
how abt if she fights and kills those buggers? or sumtin, anything instead of turnin the whole thing into a nothing..and/or just leave it in a cliff hanger? :sigh:

reply

"no offence to the directors and stuff..." why not?! They should'nt have made such a bad movie if they where afraid of being offended.
Man I've just seen this. How do they even get money to make this?!
I cant belive this made it all the way to my livingroom and into my DVD-player.
Who are these people that makes these movies?!?! Filling our lives with junk.
I just dont understand. How can several human beings, sitt down and agree to making this!? Somebody should stand up and shout STOP. I can understand if one man makes a mistake. What morons putt there signature on the papers to make this!?
There should be a law against movies as bad as this one.

I don't know why anyone would recommend Cabin Fever. In my opinion..that is the worst movie ever made. I enjoyed "They". It's not the best horror movie I've ever seen, but far better than Cabin Fever.

reply

hahah... ::phew:: almost wanted to rent cabin fever..

reply

Please. True They wasn't that good but there are a lot worse movies then They. Try Scream 2 and 3. They took a fairly good slasher flick and turned its sequels into Scooby Doo mysteries. "Roman? It was Roman?" Also, another bad horror movie was Drag Me To Hell. I think that Sam Rami is one of the most overrated directors in the business since the Cohen Brothers (There, I said it, I liked the Evil Dead but 2 and Army just sucked). Were they seriously trying to make a bad movie? Vacancy 2 worse. Also, to the myrid of J-horror lovers, why is it that all the "Killer Ghosts" in these films all look like the Grudge? Just because its subtitled doesn't make it gold.
