One of the best and original game I have ever played. Why didn't they make a sequel? I mean I'm very surprised this game is so unknown to many. They make zillion sequels to games like call of duty and final fantasy.
It is a damn good game. Right up there with Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and Indigo Prophecy as an artsy game.
I am planning on writing a Screenplay of the game for the stage. For some reason, every time I watched a cutscene, I could easily see it transition to stage and still be as good.
If anyone wants to join me in the effort, I'm all for a helping hand.
A film could work. But I think a play would be really cool just because of the way it's done. Though I had thoughts of film adaption that'd follow up (Not sequel) and actually use all the possible endings.
Hey, if you're interested, I can use help on writing the screenplay for the theatre.
IGN.com had an article about this game in 2005. Unfortunetly, I can't find that page for the life of me. However, I remember some of the points they made about why the game wasn't successful.
(the whole article was about unknown games that deserved a sequel or maybe just games that deserved a sequel, I can't quite recall)
1. Severe lack of promotion. Konami almost cancelled the game about 80% of the way through, but it was finished and released with little to no marketing.
2. Boring main character. They said Eike was really uninspired and too "metrosexual". They would've preferred a more masculine character or just make the main character female.
3. Jittery controls. I agree here, sometimes I'd be running around and "bump" into a pole or something that I wasn't even that close to. But I felt that was minor and it didn't stop me from enjoying the game.
4. Bigger city. A bigger city would've been nicer they said. That would've expanded the story and gameplay greatly. I partly agree with that, because that could've been remedied by a sequel.
I think there was like two more, but I can't recall them. I really loved this game, it was the first game I rented when I got my PS2 and soon bought it afterwards. Looks like getting the PC version from the Konami website is the only way of perserving this game because most of the PS2 versions in game stores are scratched and mangled (plus, I don't have my PS2 anymore). Here's hoping they'd make a sequel, although I HIGHLY doubt it.
I just recently got a PS3 as well and have been looking for this game since. Let me tell you, NOT THAT EASY! Uggh, one of us on this board needs to get famous so we can give props to this game in an interview and spark interest in reviving it or getting a sequel.
