Whats the best british comedy?

Personally i haven't seen an awful lot of decent british comedies but this is one of the funniest films I have seen. In what other films has a man man: snapped a wooden penis off, put it in his pocket and have an old dear belive he had an erection, had a mans head in a stew, pretended to be crapping using a toilet brush and fart sounds, and slipped on a strippers pole. Aswell as other characters tell old women to f*** off, stuff heads down their clothes, and access web porn which later tells the bad guy in the film "You've been screwed"

This is a great movie, but I think the best British comedy is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Best one recently was 24-Hour Party People.

reply

As somebody mentioned, the Monty Python films are certainly in the running, and you can't forget the Italian Job.

Monty Phython and the holy grail. Or, if more recent, Shaun Of The Dead.
Didn't enjoy The Parloe Officer. Steve Coogan dissaapointed me very much, and the dancing ending left me cringing with embarrasment. The only line I liked was 'I shat myself'

You can't drink a pint of Bovril

reply

"the dancing ending left me cringing with embarrasment" why where you embarrased you weren't in it?

reply

The Full Monty?? Classic!

reply

Hmmmm... I think that the Ealing Comedies of Sir Alec Guinness are the best, especially the Ladykillers (1955) as Sir Alec Guinness thus inspired comedians like Peter Sellers and created a really fantastic character.

In terms of best TV comedy, I will say yes Minister because it is so funny.

I'd say Nuns on the run starring Eric Idle and Robbie Coltrane is a great Brit comedy movie. Not Guest House Paradiso though!

reply

yes, i agree 100%!!! Nuns and 'Fish Called Wanda are ace. Two fumbs up!
"I got sumfin, for yer. It's in the car outside." haha! classic!

reply

Must be the Python films, the Ealing Studio films and The Italian Job

reply

Have to agree with you there despite it being a wee bit convoluted and far fetched in places. Recently seen "Plots With A View" which made me giggle and a more believabe story line.

reply

Steve Coogan's upcoming Alan Partridge movie has potential to be the best film ever. It will at least be better than The Parole Officer.
And then there's the fantastic Shaun of the Dead.

reply

Ooh, just saw The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse today, chances are, if you liked The Parole Officer, you'll love this!

reply
