I have noticed that most bigger-budget movies about private schools centre around boys' only or co-educational institutions, and almost none are about girls' schools. The only bigger budget one I can think of is "A LIttle Princess" (and perhaps "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie"). Movies like "Lost and Delerious" and "Strike!" don't really count. Can anyone think of any?
I think Mona Lisa Smile is set at a girl's school. I'm not sure when it's set to come out, it stars Julia Robert and Julia Stiles. From the premise, it sounds kinda like a girl's Dead Poet's Society, but we'll have to wait to see when it comes out. I have to agree, I can't really recall any other big budget films in this setting. Just another example of the patriarchy in our society. SOOOO many films revolve around male leads. Wouldn't count either of those two(strike, lost and...) either as there were no big stars, big budget or big reception, and frankly neither is too great imo.
Mona Lisa Smile is set in an all girl's school in the 1950's. It looks really good from the previews. I think it's supposed to come out around Christmas.
I love the film strike! or, as it's known in Australia 'the hairy bird'. its one of my absolute favorites- and, going to a girl school myself, I can completely relate with every single aspect of it. especially the bastardly brother school.
i wanna see more films about girls schools- the all boy thing has been done to death!
