counter point: this movie was one of the worst I have ever seen and I would not recommend it to anyone, exept people I dont like.

I thought very highly of it too and have been reccommending it to others. I thought that Kevin Kline was excellent as usual and that Paul Dano (who played the young Martin) was very, very good. Great flick, no matter what others may say.

This movie is too derivative to be considered great or even very good. It is well made in the technical sense and it does take itself seriously but the general themes have been touched upon before and better. It is "Goodbye Mr. Chips"-1939 with Robert Donat- meets "Dead Poets Society" with "Quiz Show" thrown in.

The lady love interest, if that is what it is, is really superfluous as are several other touches such as his baseball smashing the President's car.

It is hard, however, not to give this a thumbs up given the competition around these days. Just do not expect a great, original film.
