Optimist or pessimist?

It's been quite a while that I've seen this movie. At the very beginning, when the group of soldiers makes a rest in the forest by night, a dialogue begins in which one of them asks the other(s) something like if it's better to be a optimist or a pessimist. Those of you reading this will surely know what I mean. For me this dialogue was stunning and surely a memorable quote from this movie. But.....I can't get it together correctly now.
Does anybody know how this dialogue went correctly?
(Sorry for my "broken english" ;-)

It's about the difference between an optimist and a pessimist: The pessimist thinks things can't get worse; the optimist knows they can.
