Why did Soft say ask his secretary at the end to inform each side that the other side is planning to commandeer the central trench at nightfall? That's pretty extreme: deliberately creating another battle out of nothing. Or did I misunderstand?

He asked his secretary to do that so that no one would ever know that the Bosnian soldier was still alive and still on the mine.
