presumably the outcome is bleak for the geezer asitting on the mine.

He will either die on the inevitable shelling of the trench that night (the UN officer tells the totty to ensure both sides are told that the oppo are to attempt to take the trench that night) or he'll eventually move and set the mine off... or die just sitting there of malnutrition/thirst etc.

i don't know what happened now over there, but what Adnan said is very true. After all this movie pretty much redicule the war in Yugoslavia, and leaving people behind to die by UN is what this movie telling me.
And at the heat of war in Iraq, and in the moment of power handover from USA to Iraq, its pretty much the same thing. Allied (no matter who's inside) destroyed, crashed, banished every good and evil thing in Iraqi land, leaves Iraqi people with nothing but crap and hatred among its people. The smiling party will be construction agencies (who btw. putting prices over the skies with prospect of trading with oil contract or profit share) or oil-mining coorporation from Allied countries. No wonder they are the people that Iraqi people targeting to be slaughtered or taken hostaged.
I hope there is similar movie like No Man's Land with Iraqi people in the background. (and US army as the satirical idiocracy).

its all true... but you have to add that this movie shows how politics destroeys people by starting ridiciulous wars, and then killing people on every step when some general for example wants to stay in line, dont take any action at all.
This film shows how simple people suffer from conflicts that dont really underestand, how they do dirty work, they gor killed and in the end all of them on both sides are the victims...
I think this applies to most of the wars in twientieth century, and most of present wars, like Iraq.
