music

perhaps this should be more apparent to me, but i'm stuck thinking about the music in the film. i understand that tanovic composed some of it, but is he also making a reference to some popular music? i'm thinking particularly of the kid playing the accordian for the fat officer.

also, does anyone know of a place where i can get the lyrics for the opening song? i suppose i could transcribe them, but my serbian/bosnian/croatian isn't that good. (btw, and i know this is the wrong thread, but i was taught serbian and croatian and bosnian all in the same classroom, but the same teacher (in a university in the US). every so often the professor says, "croatian says this, serbian says this, and bosnian does this." i'll save my commentary for later).

thanks.

okay. since nobody has stepped up to help, i'll go one step further, and repeat my request for help. here are the lyrics that tanovic wrote for the credits and opening, untranslated. i haven't been able to figure out a few words, so if someone could help translate this, it'd be much appreciated.

SPAVAJ SINE,
San te prevario

Besa ti se,
besa ti se Namukovala

Jedni kuju,
jedni kuju,
Drugi pozlaçuju,
Treçi nose,
treçi nose Od zlata jabuku

Pa ti majka,
pa ti majka Udova ostala,
Pa ti majka,
pa ti majka Udova ostala

I wanted to make sure that you have the correct originals lyrics and I did a search on yahoo. I found a translation on a web site (http://www.eurobosnia.net/wb10ba.html)
I was not to happy with their translation so made a few changes.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Mmmmm mmmm mmm...
Mmmmm mmmm mmm...

There there son, sleep son
The sleep has overtaken you
Your bed, your little bed
Was forged out at sea

Ones are forging, ones are forging
Others are goldplating
The third are carrying, the third are carrying
The golden apple

Your mother is suffering, your mother is suffering
Became a widow
Your mother is suffering, your mother is suffering
Became a widow

Mmmmm mmmm mmm...
Mmmmm mmmm mmm...

Does anyone know who sings the song? I heard it, and I thought it was a singer named Zara Tellander. But I'm not sure!

reply

I believe it is sung by Alma Bandic...
