Just watched the 2003 DVD and have a question: did Lucetta KNOW that Elizabeth-Jane and Farlfae (sp?)were sweet on each other before she met him in her house? I thought that when Lucetta and E-J were talking about E-J's decision to move and they both saw him at the gate looking in, that it was clear that he was looking at E-J, but maybe not. Help, someone?
shareI can't recall the exact details of this incident in the miniseries, but in the book, E-J was not home when Farfrae came to call on her. So I don't believe Lucetta knew E-J was in love with Farfrae when she met him.
But I do fault Lucetta for using E-J in her plans to get back together with henchard. She was very manipulative of E-J. If E-J had stayed living with Henchard, Farfrae would have called on her there, and maybe they would have married long before Farfrae even knew who Lucetta was.
