The helicopter ride/dropping the legs

Hi,

I haven't seen this asked anywhere else on this board, which makes me think I may have just missed something. (Or everyone else missed it.) I just watched Kandahar and I have a question about the helicopter ride that takes Nafas to Afghanistan.

At the beginning of the movie, we clearly hear a Red Cross aid worker speaking to the helicopter pilot just before he drops the fake legs. She says; "This is Magda speaking, this is Magda speaking. We are quite busy here today ..." At the end of the movie, when Nafas has already travelled a long way, and she is at a Red Cross camp, we hear one of the aid workers talking to a helicopter pilot and she says the exact same thing as at the beginning, right before he drops fake legs.

This means that the Red Cross station where Nafas was dropped off is the same one that she is at when the legs are dropped at the end of the movie. (Unless there are two Magdas at different Red Cross posts who just happen to sound the same and say the same thing.)

At first I thought this was just the director/producer being cheap and accidentilly using the same footage twice.

But now I think it's a bit too obvious to be a mistake and I'm wondering what it could possibly represent.

I think it might symbolize that despite Nafas's courage and determination, she has ultimately gotten nowhere in her journey and it's all been done in futility. That seems dark and depressing, though, so I hope I'm wrong.

Any ideas on what it might possibly mean?

I enjoyed this movie because I like movies that don't tidily wrap everything up at the end. It definately had me thinking long after it had finished. However, some of the acting was atrocious, particularly the aid workers, but they were probably real aid workers and not actresses.

Any insights into whether the repeating dialogue was a mistake or intentional and what you think it represents would be appreciated.

Thanks.
