I just finished reading the first user comment... I'll sum it up in a word. They're called children. Maybe you should have a couple. I'm 40 years old. I took my 2 kids to see it (ages 6 and 3) If you're going to read socio-political issues into a Disney picture that was conceived from a Rudyard Kipling book, look a little deeper. I'm suprised you sat through the whole thing~~ Why did you? Leave Disney cartoons alone. It gave me ninety minutes to spend some time laughing with my kids. The world I'm handing them is trashed enough without having to wade through over-analytically sensationalized reviews from adults who paid 8 bucks for the bashing privs.
You know, kids movies don't have to be so dumb. When I was a kid, we had movies like "The Secret of NIMH", "The Last Unicorn", "Watership Down" and of course the classic Star Wars movies. These are still entertaining to me now, as an adult. But I can't say that of a lot of Disney movies. I could barely sit through them when I was a kid, and the crap they turn out lately must be an insult to at least the more intellegent kids out there. I've said before, Lilo and Stitch were cute... this and many other Disney movies were not.
True, kids' movies don't have to be dumb, but you also have to take into consideration your perspective. When we were kids, The Secret of NIMH and The Last Unicorn WERE good. I wonder how many adults, having never seen these "classic" movies before, would react. They might think they're as bad as you seem to think this one is. They ARE still entertaining to you (and me too), but that's because they're so much a part of your upbringing and childhood. And about Star Wars, those are as much for children as they are for adults. I hardly think "we" as children "had" Star Wars movies.
Until you can write, animate and produce better work, take it easy on Disney. They never EVER said the sequels were going to be better or even as GOOD as the originals. It's a completely different medium.
Consequently, I think The Jungle Book 2 has some of the most fluid and appealing animation of many of the Disney sequels.
I agree with what you are saying about kids movies. When I was little there was this movie called Emmett Otter's jugband Christmas. That was my favorite christmas movie when I was growing up. I hadnt seen it in about fifteen years or so, but I got a copy of it last year around Christmas time and put it on for my two kids.(ages 2 and a half and 4) I sat down to watch it with them and I got up about halfway through the movie because I thought it sucked. My daughters didnt like it either. I called my mom and asked her why in the hell I ever liked that movie to begin with. She told me that she didnt know. She always thought the movie sucked but that I really liked it so she put up with it. I just think that we should all be greatful that we have Disney for our kids. I'd much rather have my kids watching the worst Disney movie ever than sitting through the junk that is being shown on network tv.
I don't have time for kids. You get like that when your a 38-year old virgin who lives with his mother. Movies is all I got to do when get home from the comic book store. That and TV shows and videos games.
You might like this movie so you can watch it with your "kids" but somebodys got to guard the integrity of these masterpeices, man. They're not just random seuences of bright colors and cathcey songs to amuse some 3year old. They're my freinds.
*all right I'm actually 18, and never seen this movie...but I couldn't resist*
