About King Louie

What did Baloo mean when he said that King Louie has 'splitsville' ?

Also, if the reason why King Louie couldn't appear was because then Disney will have to pay the estate of Louis Prima, then how was he able to appear in the other Jungle Book spinoffs?

Because the claim was filed in 2000. All Jungle Book spin-offs (Tale Spin, Jungle Cubs) were made before 2000.

It's too bad that they didn't just pay King Louie was the coolest.

Another reason is that the widow was suing for unauthorized use of the likeness of the character (which I wonder how does that make any sense). It's not like Prima owned the character, Disney did. Jim Cummings is pretty much a worthy successor to almost all Disney characters, Louie included. As far as I'm concerned, it's the main reason why the movie blows.

I just realized that Louis Prima's widow, Gia Maione, who was the one who filed the lawsuit in the first place, passed away in September of 2013. Does anybody know if Disney is allowed to re-use the King Louie character/name/likeness/voice? It's a real shame they couldn't use his character in The Jungle Book 2. He was my favourite character from the 1967 film, and Jim Cummings did a spot-on version of the character in TaleSpin.

I never understood that. She allows Disney to use Louie for Talespin and any other material from the time her husband dies until the 90's, and then decides to sue in 2000?
