New Age Procreation Discussion

I enjoyed the movie, mostly. It's a new approach to an old idea and I give them credit for finding a relatively cheap way to present a new version of post-civilization.

But I object to the overly PC, careful and deliberate discussion of procreation at the dinner table. With 186 people left in the Bay Area, I don't think people would be so concerned with parenting issues. I think they'd mostly be interested in just reproducing.

In pre-industrial societies the idea is to give birth as much as possible so that one or more of those kids will survive into adulthood. Wouldn't that apply here?

And then, to revert to the more traditional post-apocolyptic movie culture, would the remaining men be so careful and understanding of the emotions connected to becoming a parent? Or would they be more likely to just rape the women and eat all the food in the pantry?

Maybe I've seen too much Mad Max, but I think the reality would be uglier than this movie proposes.

Well, these people are San Franciscans, after all, so it's a different type of community than you'd find post-apocalyptically in say, Cleveland or Miami or some other city with less New Age (OP's phrase) values.

Also, they're one particular household out of the 186 survivors--not all of them live that way. And it's not as though they're as completely New Age as they seem: what about the way the "house mother" talks creepily about how grateful she is for someone willing to appoint themselves as the community's executioner.

The pussywhipped man should have forgotten about 'Erica' and had 3 days of rampant bonking.

Hell, she wants to boink for three days but doesn't want the father to have any responsibility?

I bet if things got bad, she'd turn right around and DEMAND that he provide for "his" children.

Again....it's as if these filmmakers have NO conception of ACTUAL human motivation, only PC bullpucky.
