If you don't get it...

...then maybe this will help. http://bluekeyreviews.blogspot.com/

Check out my analysis of the film. In it I discuss how important the visual language and structure of the film are to its appreciation.

Holy verbiage batman! That was some serious academic loquacity. However, I think you'reright on. People often write elaborate but pretentious reviews but yours makes sense and characterizes the film well. I especially agree with the stuff about the movie being a realistic sort of recollection of a year in this girls life, trying to find freedom and a way through her aimless hipster lifestyle. The structure of the story is there, but what really gets me is how the atmosphere, texture put you right into her world. Her world reminds me of how I though I was going to end up when I was younger. I get sentimental, maybe thats why I like this film so much.

I doubt the people who didn't get it before will, cause this is not a pop flick. However, I think it worth watching just for the feel. Again, nice review.

PS: If you likes "the Double Life of Veronique," you should check out the Decalouge, especially "A short movie about killing," or "A short movie about love." Peace.

I guess I must have come to the party too late. I'm just now seeing this film ...but the review is gone. (I hate the casual impermanence of the web:-)

It's still there under March 2009

Good analysis.
This film seems to either resonate deeply or completely elude people. I am the former while almost everyone I know is of the latter sentiment and I completely understand why they were bored or unmoved by it. It's almost impossible to describe chemistry or why/how some characters (or, how the actors portray them) just seem to click with some people while totally missing the mark for others. It's a little sad how relevant this film still is today, almost 15 years later, in modern Chinese society. I know people in real life who are almost exactly like these characters, who live lives that are variations of theirs. It's sad, depressing, irritating, a little disturbing and unwittingly beautiful at the same time.
