Yellow chair, yellow shirts, yellow walls, yellow ties. Yellow. Yellow. Yellow.

Specifically Canary yellow. His PJs are that color too in the books.

Exactly. This is not something that is just coincidence or that the scriptwriters made up; this was taken directly from the books as part of the character.

Some of the art direction seemed to have been inspired by the Dick Tracy film.
