I'm thinking of watching this series, but I would like to know if it ends on a cliffhanger or has a proper ending?

No not really the third series ends on a cliffhanger after a revelation about Adam's character and the rest of the team dealing with the finale's aftermath setting the stage for season 4.But as we know we didn't get a season 4.
