Van's dad was in college 12 years

It's kinda funny. Van was in college 7 years and his dad in the movie played by Tim Matheson was in a movie in 1984 called "Up the creek". He played a guy named Bob who was in college for 12 years.

I liked it.

When the movie came out I remember talking with my Mom about him being in the movie. She's a big fan of "Animal House" and we both found it funny that Otter was now playing the square Dad who wants his son to finish school and get a job.

beside Matheson being an awesome actor... I think part of his casting was that very reaction

-- Same thing with Paul Gleason (principal from Breakfast Club) seeming very Principal-esque until the end where he revealed his real reason for pushing Van

I like to think that Otter was his father, just changed his name, escaped his past, and became stuck up lol

Also Curtis Armstrong who plays the College Security guy, better known as "Booger" from the "Revenge of the Nerds" movies.
I think what a lot of people who criticise Van Wilder or compare it to the classic 80's frat/college movies is that by including these actors is them paying homage to those films that have come before.

Having just seen Deadpool this week, you can see that the main character Reynolds plays in that film, has similarities to Van in that confident, cocky, humorously sarcastic kind of way. Glad he's finally getting deserved praise from fans and critics alike.
