Would You Drink?

If i had Jonathan Jackson like winnie did hell yes id be with him forever .... other than that no i wouldnt drink cause at times life sucks big time.... but think of this ( i thought of it since i work in a hospital) the dying people in the icu id think they would want to drink for more time ...

It's sweet that he loves her but living forever is a big thing! You'd have to keep running around so nobody would know you don't age and you'd have to adapt to the current styles which would be strange and new to many people. In the end, the moral is to live your life to the fullest because it's quality not quantity that counts when it comes to life!

reply

NO! I would not drink for everlasting life. Yes, he loved her, but obviously she didn't think he was her TRUE love if she got married to someone else.
I wouldn't drink for everlasting life even if I had the chance. Part of the adventure of life is to lose, learn, and make the best of it.

Hola, Senor Pantolones Queso, como estas?

reply

but obviously she didn't think he was her TRUE love if she got married to someone else.

She might have settled.

reply

I wouldn't. I just want to live my life and when the end comes it will come. Eternal life is sad because you end up all alone.

reply

Well, it's probably morally correct NOT to drink the water, and so, as a human I'd like to think I'd not drink it. Also as a human, I am incredibly subject to temptation, and likely WOULD drink it in the end.

I dont think her choice not to drink had anything to do with love, it was much deeper then that, she thought about it long and hard, saw the effects of death first hand and listend to what father tuck had said, would she have been happy like that forever? watching other loved ones either die or having to run from them? not at all. I sure would not drink either.

Sometimes I think about whether I'd like to live forever, but what my mind keeps returning to is the idea that someday the sun will burn out. Or explode or whatever and the Earth will die. Human race will become extinct. And I certainly dont want to end up floating in space for all of eternity... that would be fun at first, but get old really quickly.

reply

i don't think that she thought jesse wasnt her true love, she was actually totally crazy about him i think it was more like things just happened in her life in which jesse wasn't a part of so they never really did get together

have you seen 'The Man From Earth?' coz thats the storyline from that

There are times in my life that i enjoyed so much that i wouldn't mind reliving them over again, but i would NOT want to have eternal life. On the outside it sounds good, but on the inside, i believe the good Lord put us on this planet for a short while. To choose forever immortality over him would be betrayal in my opinion. Of course for those who don't believe in God, bottoms up, and have fun. Give it 100 years or so, you'll regret it.

I want to do too many things and I'm sure I don't have time to do them. This movie and book, I think, give a better perspective on dying and living for ever. I mean, you would probably be lonely, but at least you would see every thing there is to see and never be worried about time. It wouldn't be a factor.
But yes, I would drink indefinitely.

reply

i wouldn't drink.

reply

No. It's scary to think you'll die some day, but living forever, I don't think so. Your friends would die, and your family, and you would be alone, staying the same age, and living the same way forever. You'd never die. :/ (I know, way to bring down the semi-chipper mood. Sorry. :/)

I would take a flask scoop some of it and then ponder over it later in life.

reply

No, I wouldn't drink. It would be to hard to live forever. I agree with somebody who said before that it's the quality of life that matters, not the quantity.

No. The world is full of guys. Be a man. Don't be a guy.

reply

Sure, it would sound tempting now. But that is because we don't ponder the concept of eternity. You will live FOREVER! One day the sun will implode, there will be total darkness. You'll be the last person on a deserted dark planet. Then the earth explodes in a supernova (or... whatever), and you end up floating through space, alone FOR ALL ETERNITY!! Still think you should'a drunk that water then?

Would I drink?

Hmm, difficult question; if you take into concideration that there are so many things I want to do and learn. Then yes, I would drink it. It would give me the time to do that all, to keep making new friends. To see the world change around me. And since there are at least 4 other people like me(the Tucks) then I would know hat, even if we ever have a fight and don't see each other for ages, they will always be there too, like me.

But on the other hand. I'd see my parents and friends die around me. The world has so many awful things and I will have to live through all of that. If I feel terribly depressed with life and want to die... I won't be able to. I'll be forced to live. I won't be able to die, so I won't have to keep taking my medicines, but I will see the world evolve around me... and I won't be able to participate. If people ever find out about it, they will use me as a test object. If I ever get in a position with peopel hating me for being able to live foreven, and they don't, they will be able to physically and mentally torture me... forever. With no hope for release through death. They will be able to torture me generation after generation after generation. Sounds a bit negative maybe... but humans are awful like that.

My conclusion; I wouldn't drink, but like Winnie: I'd live my life to the fullest.

It's like this, no matter what decision you make, you'd regret it later. It's the 'be carefull what you wish for; you might get it' philosophy. And people are never happy with what they get. ^_^

I really don't think I could be able to deal with it. Never aging, never dying, watching all your friends and family grow old and die while you're just there "like rocks beside the road". You'd never be able to have a deep relationship with anybody, because you'd be to afraid to lose them or they would be horrified by the fact that you don't seem to grow old (which was exactly Miles' problem). Yeah, you'd live forever, and never have to worry about your mortality again, but is it really worth it? Not to mention, it would take the fun out of life. Without any kind of risk, life would be rather dull.

Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here.

Everlasting life...no

Extended life...absolutly yes

reply

I agree! Extended life sounds magnificent. But still.. I'd think if the sun exploded, they'd finally die (I mean, it truly doesn't make sense for random people to be floating out in space; if it did make sense, then that would mean these Tucks could swim underwater without oxygen.. which is also weird..)

Uhh.. I don't know about you guys, but I'm way more of a romanticist, and if I truly loved someone, I would spend an eternity with them (and not go away and marry some other random guy).

no, i wouldn't, i agree with Winne with this one, i mean why would anyone wanna see everyone die generation to generation,

I would drink the water. Without a doubt. I'm with Jesse, becuase if you will forever, you can do so much. You can everwhere, and see the most beatiful places. You can try everything you want, and just be free. You don't speed through life, becuase you would have all the time in the world. Who cares if you're just a rock on the road, that doesn't mean that you can't live, you can still live life to the fullest. If you live forever, you could find a cure for cancer, or change the world. With forever, someone could see everything, meet everyone, and try everything. There's nothing bad about it unless you choose to be all depresed, and wish you could die, like Miles. Jesse choose to be happy about it, and he's been all around the world, and has all sorts of adventutres.

So I would defintly drink the water. There's not a chance I wouldn't.

In the scene where Winnie is letting her hand run through the water, toying with the decision as to drink it or not, at that moment in time, if it were me, I would have drank some out of that conviction of love she had felt for Jesse. Whether or not I would have regretted this is debateable, but I am certain that in that moment I would have been to caught up to not drink it. Perhaps it would have been more cheesy, yet more realistic, if Winnie had drank the water. I know, then I wouldn't like the movie or the book because it wouldn't have the amazing ending this does, but it probably is more realistic, seeing as most people would've drank because of lack of vision for the future.

reply

YES, i'd drink. Jesse was f__cking gorgeous!
