Madison was WAY more gorgeous than his girlfriend. She obviously really intensely liked him. She was blonde, soft, and gorgeous, and very exciting. Many guys would have broken off with the girlfriend immediately and wanted to be with Madison instead.

Seriously though, because he loved his girlfriend for who she was not just how she looked, I'm sure. They had a long term relationship and she was caring, supportive, kind, and understanding. I would have chosen Madison in a heartbeat. The gf was very plain-looking, while Madison has this gorgeous, baby-doll look (the kind that Hollywood tries to villify, because Hollywood has a resentment of anything that's reminiscent of the WASP culture that it displaced, but that men find gorgeous). Ben used to be a screwed up kid. Amy helped him clean up his life and helped him stay clean. She became his rock, but she was kind of "plain" and Ben was getting scared about their future. I think he just wanted to experiment. He had a one night stand with a hot girl and then realized he'd made a big mistake. What he had with Amy was real and he didn't want to ruin it for some hot piece of @ss.
