Old story, hollywood eat itself

Are Hollywood plain a remake of IL MARE? So strange, since IL MARE is a remake of LOVE LETTER, by Dan Curtis, with Jannifer Jason Leigh! ;) Short memory in California, uh? ;p

reply

Love Letter isn't a remake of Il Mare.

he didnt say Love Letter is a remake of Il Mare....

Oops, I meant the other away around. :)

They both have huge similarities. I'm not going to say one is a remake, but when I saw The Love Letter, Il Mare didn't seem so original anymore.

Still good, though.

For Christ's sake... why?
(rhetorical question)

Admitting, I haven't seen the full remake yet (not planning to either)but the trailer just gave me goosebumps.
(And I mean this in the same way the trailer of "Saw" gave me goosebumps.)

*sigh*

The original story for Il Mare was also written by the author of Love Letter. Il Mare is not a remake but you guys were obviously able to indicate the similarity between the two.

reply

you mean some other movie was also written by the author of love letter..right?

"The Lake House" is the obvious remake. And a ham-fisted one at that.

If it ain't broke, etc...

Listen, if it's such an awful thing to do a remake, than why did the producers of "Il Mare" sold the rights to the story? Yeah, that's right, they too want the money. "Il Mare" was not broken but it wasn't perfect either. For me, "The Lake House" is much better due to the chemistry, pacing and ending. If you don't like remake, don't watch it, it's that simple. Let others choose which version they want to see.

Have you actually seen the orginal? if you haven't how can you compare? I thought the original was vastly superior both in acting chemistry and directing and wasnt flawed, cheesy and predictable.

The whole point of the film was love overcoming the obstacle of time and will they or wont they ever get together...not just I'll go to their birthday party and kiss them! Reeves was stalking her most of the film! he was her landlord! he rented the lakehouse to her.

And the ending was predictable and cheesy and diddnt make sense, how can she be at the lakehouse and reeves just walk up to her? who was that she saw die in the bus crash then?, all those events leading up to that point that made her go to the lakehouse and post that letter all of a sudden just diddnt happen? ...doesnt make sense.

The orginal ending was much better not only were you surprised at the end but you were left feeling for the woman who left crying at the lake who never ever got to meet him, whilst at the same time happy to see the man actually meet her.

Of course I saw the original. Why do you think I said that I prefer the remake? As for the ending, it made sense but you have to think hard to understand it. I am too lazy to explain but there are plenty of posts explaining it. I suggest you read them.

I knew I had seen a similar film like this before but had forgotten it. I 1st saw The Love Letter, followed by The Lakehouse, then Il Mare. Personally, I would rank the films in this order:

1. The Love Letter
2. Il Mare
3. The Lakehouse

The Love Letter was very romantic & tragic for me, it reminded me so much of Somewhere In Time with Christopher Reeves.

You can accept the woman's past being changed when the man appears in it where he wasn't before, but you can't accept her past being changed by him not dying in it? It's the same thing!
