Why, at the end, was she moving out of Il Mare? Obviously at that point he had not died, he received her letter death was averted, so he would have continued living at the house and she would not have moved in the first place thereby rendering the last scene completely...confusing
maybe he moved out deliberately, so he could have an exact date to meet her again in 2 years, because he knew the date when she moved out of that house, it was on the first postcard he got from her. If he stayed, she never could have moved in, and he could have missed meeting her again. And by this time he knew that she would have broken up with her old boyfriend too :D
and maybe, since he first got to know her from that point, in her future, he wanted to start off from that point again, but this time in the present. So this way, nothing changed for her till that point, but instead of meeting him through a letter, this time they could really meet.
(though it would've been nicer, if they met in her future, with her having having the memories of the mailbox-conversations, like how they planned it the first time, with that beach meeting. Because this way, he just seems like a stalker, with a crazy story... :/ )
"Because this way, he just seems like a stalker, with a crazy story... :/ )"
Well, by meeting her just as she's leaving he can verify his "long and magical tale" by showing her his copy of the Xmas card she had just written a few seconds earlier and hadn't yet posted.
Okay, then this way, he just seems like a stalker, with a crazy story, that can be verified. But he would still be a stranger, without her getting to know him through other then his long and magical tale. :)
this was an add on ending to the film by the studio because they felt the original ending was deemed too sad.. the real ending was when he was hit by the car.. and it just ends right there...
