Book

Is this film based on the pretty dam awesum, and very fory book 'the rats' by James Herbert coz it sounds the same sort of premise

reply

I'm planning to see it now, so I cannot reply for certain, but judging by the plot, it has nothing to do with Herbert's "Rats" or its followups. He's not credited anywhere, either. Rats are just typical horror pests... :o)

I hoped the same thing, since The Rats by James Herbert is one of my favourite books. Sadly its not based on the book at all. Its a pretty average and unmemorable film too so it was dissapointing.
Searching IMDB, it seems the closest thing to a The Rats film is thie film called Deadly Eyes: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083801/
But again it seems the budget was low on it.

They really should make a very dark and gritty realisation of the book (with a decent budget), I'm surprised they havent already. I'm not usually interested in horror but made an exception with this book as its so well-written and you become quickly attached to each character (even when they dont last long!).

There was an official "rats" movie back in the early 90`s . Good luck finding a reference to it !

James Herbert's The Rats was officially made into a film (by the director of Enter The Dragon) in 1982, called Deadly Eyes, although it was re-released, in England at least, as The Rats. I used to own it. It's rubbish.

I read the book in my teens when it came out. Bloody thing gave me nightmares it was that good.

This would be a good candidate for a remake. no dachshunden required.

Yeah I remember deadly eyes I just used to look at the cover of the video and be scared lol. They should remake that film would be good for all the fans.

What about Herberts novel The Fog I'd like to see that one made.

The film was low budget and not altogether good however it has one startling feature that makes it stand out - the decision to bravely depict a baby in his carriage ripped apart by the rats. this was something very much in theme with the book and is amazingly brave for a film! Wish there was more bravery like this.

I think the Fog is way too graphic to make into a film, parts of it are really sick, especially the scene with the school buys having sex and beating the headmasters manhood to a bloody pulp..awesome book though!

Is this the return to Oz?

Unfortunately as with the original attempt at making one of Herbert's books into a movie, you will have to deal with it being set in the states, when all his books are set in the UK ,it's about time someone stood up and actually did something about this .
