reply

I just ordered the signed photo, and I can't wait to get the DVD!

reply

Dude. I don't have 45 bucks to pass around. Lol. That kinda sucks, because I really want to see this movie. ;-)

reply

I have to pay $75.00 for it!

reply

As much as I really want to see this I can't afford to pay that kind of price for it.

Does anyone know when or if 'Chance' will be available to rent? And here's the kicker...available to rent in Canada?...

At the moment the film doesn't have a proper distibutor. All the work, and the funding (which i do think explains the prices people have been complaining about), comes from Amber and her family who were involved in the film. So it's unlikely that it'll be available to rent anywhere. Personally, I think it's worth the money. I'm going to have to start working in sterling here because my currency conversion isn't great: I bought the poster and the photo for approx £34. In the UK the average new release DVD costs £16 so bearing that in mind, i got the poster and photo for £9 each. £9 for an personally autographed item from one of the BtVS cast? Ebay people! Make your money back and get a brilliant film.

reply

I don't suppose you know the aspect ratio of the dvd and if its widescreen if its anamorphic (enhanced for widescreen) do you?

Thanks

Andy

reply

uh... dude, you're getting ripped off. no movie is worth that much.

reply

IMHO, it worth it, if you have the $ to get it of course.
I payed $55 for the poster / photo, $13 for shiping, £10 for my bank to issue a US cheque.

Isn't it annoying as f*ck to see good movies such as this not being able to get proper attention because of the lack of money, but other horrible movies get all the spotlight just because they star better known actors and have more $$$? One example popping to mind if "Freddy Got Fingered".

By the way, I HAVEN'T seen this movie, but I am guessing I will like it. Don't think me a hypocrit because of this, I wasn't defending Chance only, but many many other great films who can't get more viewers because of their lack of money/better known actors.

reply

This movie isn't just great, it's inspirational. It has made me appreciate Amber so much more than I already did. I love this movie, and I love Amber. She is so amazingly fantastic at everything, Writing, Directing, Acting everything. She can even sing like an angel.

Okay that came off a little more stalker than I intended but hey she's incredible.

Ok i don't want to start a huge debate about internet piracy or anything but i would like to say i think it's unfair that people download independent movies for free. As you said yourself, it's annoying when lousy films with big name actors are produced en masse and decent films like Chance don't get studio backing and proper distribution. However, the only way to change this is to vote with your feet, or rather with your money. If enough people decided that they're going to spend their money on films like Chance rather than the usual trashy blockbusters then the studios may think twice about the films they pick up. Also, i feel internet downloading will discourage indie film-makers (like Amber, who has said she doesn't want Chance available online) from producing films in future. If the general public won't support films like Chance then it's unlikely the studios will.

reply

I whole heartedly agree with The Baroness on the issue of piracy and indie film makers. While i have, in the past, downloaded films (only blockbusters), doing it to indie filmmakers is like slapping them in the face. I bought Chance and met Amber Benson at a signing, and i have to say that if you ever met her, no way would you ever pirate her stuff. She's one of the most down to earth, easy going, loveliest people i've ever met. I can't wait to get a spare minute so i can watch the film.
She's currently touring the UK signing, so if you get a chance (I think its mostly Forbidden Planet shops that she's signing at) go see her, buy her dvd, and get an autograph. I waited in the cold for almost five hours, and still paid out the £30 for the DVD and a poster. Hell, she was willing to see everyone that turned up (she was only meant to be there for two hours), so i was willing to pay!

Sorry, what's VCD?

I'm torn. I really want to see this movie, but I don't want to be such a large some of money (at least, it's alrge for a college student) without knowing (in my opinion) how the movie is. So I'm really tempted to watch it online. It's not that I want to take away from Amber or an independent movie, but I'd really like to see the film before I make such an investment. Believe me, if I enjoy the movie as much as much as most people here have, I have every intention on buying the film.

"Are you on the side of good..or the side of awesome?!"

reply

I agree. I'm completely there on the torn-i-ness. I'm in high school and ever since I read that Amber was working on creating an indie film, my heart was literally torn in two. (I have the pieces left to show it.) I was excited, happy that she was succeeding, anticipating the film that also stars my absolute favorite (James Marsters), yet knowing that there was a slim to none chance I would ever get to see it. (Heh, no "Chance" for me.) I don't want to download it because that's not my style, even with blockbuster films, and, once again with the high school student that I myself am, I am dirt poor with no income and no possible way to milk that much money from my parents to purchase it at those prices.

sigh.

I'm glad to hear the film is good. I just pray I find it on ebay one day (at a price I can convince my dad's happy little credit card to pay.)

THE BIG BAD

"You know, one of these days I'm gonna stick you two in a room and let you rassle it out. . . . oh! There could be oil of some kind involved!"

reply

It's not that I'm against downloading movies off the internet (although I dont really need to since I work at a theaer and can see them for free anyhow), it's the whole issue of it being an independent movie and needing support. While they are becoming more desirable to the mainstream (finally, people are just fed up with Hollywood's crap), a lot of indie movies still never make it because of lack of audience. I'd love to support Amber, I just can't afford to blindly do it. By the way, can anyone message me as to where I can obtain this avi or any other video file of it?

"Are you on the side of good..or the side of awesome?!"

reply

I think they should put up a clip of the movie or maybe even some sort of trailer for it on the website, so that you can get an idea of what it's like before you buy it.

reply

If you want to get an idea of the film before buying it then the entire script is available to read online at http://www.chancemovie.com/

reply

I have actually already bought the movie. I just think it would be a good idea to put up some sort of preview for the film for those who aren't sure they want to buy it.

reply

i totally agree.. i mean i love amber benson, but alot of people complain that the movie is horrible, but some say it is good......i think that i will like it but i dont want to buy the movie unless im sure it will be good.

I actually saw a clip from Chance, and that helped me make up my mind to buy the movie.. So it is possible I meen.
It really is a great movie. I just watched it for the fourth time, and it just gets funnier each time I see it. (And I keep falling in love with James as Simon..)

reply

What is Chance rated? Is it on sale in Illinois?

reply

[deleted]

You can only buy it on the website, I think it is www.chancemovie.com

reply

Is there anyway us in the UK can get it without having to order a picture or poster, will it never be released properly?

Does anybody eve notice? Does anybody even care?:)

reply

There's no way anyone can buy it officially without purchasing an autograph. Legal issues mean that Amber can't sell the DVD but she can give it away free. So technically you're paying for the photo/poster and not the DVD.

reply

Does anyone know where I can get a region 1 version of the movie? They no longer have them avalible at her site. New or used it dosen't matter cause I am dying to see the movie.

reply

they've stopped selling them because they've run out of copies. also chance has a deal with a distributor.

reply

Kewl
but how do you know this?

reply

http://www.chancemovie.com

check that out, or Essence of Amber for information. Small Planet Pictures is distributing this now. It's had a theatrical release, and it's going to be out on DVD as a release-they say in July, this year.

I bought the autographs to get the movie thru the website-when VHS copies were still available.
I also noticed Amber is showing the movie at some live appearances of hers.
If you see it that way-you might only pay about $3.00 to see if you like it or not-then you'd know if you want to buy it.

It's a first effort-so don't expect it to be "all that."
but it's fun seeing Andy, James, and Amber in roles away from their Buffy and Angel characters...
I won't say I loved it-but I loved Andy Hallett *in* it. There's a big difference.

Also, isn't Tressa DiFiglia otherwise known as Mrs Brendon (Nick B's wife)?

To those who'd like to see the trailer - it's available on Limewire. I know, cos I just downloaded it, and it looks great. Can't wait to see the whole thing sometime.

The latest issue of Buffy magazine puts the Chance DVD on sale 'this fall'.

don't know how useful that is, but I hope there are out takes and interviews. We just bought 'MAY' and it has 2 commentaries, one with special guest, 'the craft services guy' and the other with one of the gaffers or something.

so they don't take themselves too seriously as do many art house film makers.
