Joe Louis and the IRS

Is it true the IRS debt was mainly from money Joe donated to the U.S. Government? Born Joseph Louis Barrow (May 13, 1914 – April 12, 1981) I can find little more than passing mention of this. The article linked to is as informative as any I have found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Louis#Taxes_and_financial_troubles. I have not seen "Joe Louis: America's Hero... Betrayed" and its review has no comments. Anyone?

I just watched the movie & did some searching from what I read it appears majority of his back taxes came from exhibition winnings he donated to the Armed Services. I can't believe his advisers let this happen.

He donated his purses Wasn't that enough for those Shylocks?

Maybe his descendants still owe taxes.

I watched the HBO documentary. The IRS story is true. I'm not sure Joe Louis had the best advisors. He liked to spend money as fast as he got it. Just like some athletes today. His son is interviewed and he was very frank about his father's poor decision making and absentee parenting. It was a sad story. He turned to drugs and alcohol and died broke.
